ARD is working in the field of community development through the empowerment of women in Bihar, India.

Following on from our successful Self Help Group and Rural Livelihood Program, and after extensive discussion with staff and the women in the villages, ARD is introducing three new programs to support the women and their families in the following key areas:
* Reproductive and Child Health
* Vocational Training
* Functional Literacy

Reproductive and Child Health The aim is to bring about attitudinal changes in health and well-being, as well as imparting practical information. The focus is also on ensuring that participants advocate for health services where needed. The Reproductive Health program addresses contraceptive awareness, pre-natal guidance, maternal health and well-being. It empowers newly married couples to delay and space pregnancies and gives unmarried adolescents appropriate information regarding marriageable age, the right to say ‘no’ and sexual health. Older married couples and menopausal women’s groups are also part of the initiative.

There are currently over 4,000 women from 85 villages associated with the program.
